Settlement Week

The District Courts, the County Courts at Law, and the County Court of Smith County designate two weeks each year as SETTLEMENT WEEKS.  This designation is made to comply with Sec. 155.001 et seq., of the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code and to allow the Courts, through the process of mediation, to dispose of as many pending cases as possible.  Settlement Week of 2016 has been scheduled by the Administrative District Judge for October 10-14.

All cases for mediation during Settlement Week will be ordered by the Court. Multiple party cases and those over $25,000 in controversy are not appropriate for Settlement Week. The deadline for submitting a case is set to allow sufficient time for all parties to arrange to attend the mediation. The mediation will be a two-hour session. Mediators may limit the issues appropriate for the time allowed.
