The Smith County Bar joins in the national celebration of Law Day with a luncheon on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the UTT Ornelas Center. Law Day is our chance to recognize those attorneys who have an impact on our community. The 2018 Justinian Award, Award of Excellence, Liberty Bell Award, Outstanding Young Lawyer and Legal Professional Awards will be presented. In addition, we will recognize our essay and poster contest winners and the winning Region VII Mock Trial team.
The theme for Law Day 2018 is 'Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom .'
The U.S. Constitution sets out a system of government with distinct and independent branches—Congress, the Presidency, and a Supreme Court. It also defines legislative, executive, and judicial powers and outlines how they interact. These three separate branches share power, and each branch serves as a check on the power of the others.
